Dinner at the Meadow Green restaurant at Irene Country Lodge has been revamped by Leon van Deventer and I was eager to try out their new menu. There is an a la carte menu and a buffet menu. I was going to choose some dishes from the menu, but after the lovely wait staff took us through the delectable dishes on offer at the buffet, I knew I had to have EVERYTHING!
This is no ordinary hotel dinner buffet – there are live stations where you can interact with the chefs to make your stir fry and other dishes exactly how you like it. The starters and salads are fresh and there are innovative combinations like prawn and papaya to sample.
A variety of breads, cheeses and cold meats are on offer and the knowledgeable chefs will be able to put together a platter according to your taste.
The mains were a carvery of roast chicken and pork with all the trimmings. There was also a hearty lamb curry and beef stew. The roasts were full of flavour and succulent! The sommelier is on hand for recommendations of wine to pair with the dishes from their comprehensive wine list.
The dessert table is stuff of dreams! There was a smorgasboard of cakes and puddings, tarts and desserts. At this point I was stuffed but could not resist their hazelnut cake with peanut butter and chocolate ganache and peanut brittle. So decadent, and finished off our evening on a sweet note.
The dining experience is elevated by a warm, inviting complement of staff who ensure your every need is taken care of and the luxurious atmosphere.
The price of the buffet at around R260 pp was excellent value and if you are in the Irene area, give Meadow Green a visit, they also have great promotions for breakfasts- check out more information on their website at:
