It was our first time in Clarens so we went with the most top-rated restaurant (according to Zomato and TripAdvisor reviews) for our lunch!
Clementines has a beautifully decorated interior and has a fine dining ambience with luxurious curtains and fresh flowers on the table.
They have a good selection of craft beers brewed in Clarens, so we had to try one, even though I am not a fan of beer. It’s an acquired taste for sure, but I quite liked the little I had.
For mains, I had the pan fried prince prawns on a bed of yellow lentil rice. The prawns were delicious – fresh and juicy and nicely seasoned. The rice was okay, it was also served with a rich creamy lemon butter sauce.
P had a steak with pepper sauce and some potato wedges. He said the steak was nicely prepared as medium rare and he enjoyed the pepper sauce that accompanied it.
For dessert we shared the chocolate terrine which wasn’t our favourite – it had an interesting texture but was really just frozen chocolate ice-cream. I think we were disappointed because we were expecting something more rich and decadent like a mousse?
The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient and the chef came out to greet us and find out if we enjoyed our meal, which is a nice gesture. It was a pleasant enough lunch, quite pricey and nothing extraordinary. Will give it another try, perhaps for dinner, when I return..
