It’s World Cancer Day on the 4th February 2016 – a day to reflect on how cancer affects our lives, the lives of our loved ones and society as a whole. It is a day to raise awareness of the disease, encourage regular screening, early diagnosis, healthy eating and lifestyle choices and how to receive and offer emotional support for those affected with cancer.
The Pink Drive has an incredible initiative this World Cancer Day – they have challenged over 70 restaurants in an around South Africa to take part in the #PinkTableProject. On the 4th of February, these restaurants will host “pink tables” where each patron who books and dines at these tables will have an additional charge of R100 per person added to the their bill – this entire amount will be donated to The Pink Drive. All participating restaurants can be found on Zomato under the #PinkTableProjectCollection.
The launch of the #ThePinkTableProject was held at Aurelia’s Restaurant at Emperors Palace this past week. It was a beautiful event in a gorgeous venue with pink-inspired table decor, moving speeches from cancer survivors and those involved in the project and of course – a delicious menu which we enjoyed with superb bubbly and wine from Graham Beck.
The menu highlight for me was undoubtedly the Saldanha Bay Clams with Pea Risotto – the lime zest, grana Padano cheese and olive oil blended together deliciously and it had a lovely creamy texture.
The japanese- inspired dessert was an interesting mix of flavours and textures which I enjoyed as well.
See the full review of my meal here on Zomato.
Please give your support to this worthwhile initiative and do your bit to raise awareness of cancer. For more information on Pink Drive and the great work they do, check out their website and visit their facebook page here.
